The Area 05 Accessibilities Committee explores, develops, and offers resources to alcoholics with significant barriers to receiving the Alcoholics Anonymous message and to participating in our program of recovery and expands access to the A.A. message to alcoholics in underserved or remote communities.
We want the message of A.A. in Area 05 to be available to all alcoholics who reach out for help.

Our committee focuses on: ● Exploring and Implementing projects that support members with a variety of accessibility challenges ● Providing resources and guidance to groups in Area 05 so that they can accommodate all A.A. members ● Creating awareness of and outreach efforts to reach alcoholics in communities remote by age, ethnicity, gender, language, nationality, visible and invisible disabilities, race, sexual orientation, skin color, culture, and or belief (including atheist and agnostic members).
We are currently focused on several initiatives, including: ● Informing groups and members how to conduct Meeting Accessibility Inventories; so that meetings are safe and available to all regardless of visible and invisible barriers ● Carrying the Message to under-represented groups in Area 05 Participation in the Hispanic Women’s Workshop Bringing awareness of the needs within the Deaf Community like the following: – Collecting Contributions for ASL Interpretation at AA meetings (Gold Can) – Facilitating Participation in General Service at the Area level Maintaining and distributing the Multi-Language Meeting Finder which helps reach alcoholics in communities remote by language and culture Hosting Accessibilities Workshops to bring awareness and explore Accessibility needs within the Area
